Czech Karst Protected Landscape Area is renowned for its stunning landscapes and geological formations. It is a picturesque and geologically interesting region. It is characterized by karst topography, which is formed by the dissolution of soluble rocks such as limestone, resulting in unique features like caves, sinkholes, and underground rivers.
We will start hiking from the village of Králův Dvůr. From there we will climb up to the top of Koukolova hora (471 m) atop which lies the Chapel of Saint Blaise. The route will further bring us to the place were prehistoric hillfort Kotýz used to stand. The place is situated on the western part of karst massif called Golden Horse. During the second half of the trip we will explore several quarries – Velkolom Čertovy schody (Quarry Devil’s Stairs), Houba Quarry, Quarry Na Kobyle and Homolák Quarry. In the end we will circle back to the Berounka river and get a train back to Prague.
